Truckies National Remembrance BBQ
G'day All,
For decades transport drivers have been the backbone to keeping Australia moving, via highways and byways, to streets and lanes.
Many drivers are not home to see the birth of their child, others don’t see their little one’s excitement as they prepare for their first day of school. The football or netball match, the sadness knowing their only involvement are the final scores that are sent via text.
Partners at home hate the goodbye, knowing full well that as their loved one drives out into the distance, there is that fear of what the road ahead will deliver and pray that they stay safe. The news reports of a truck accident, has thousands of partners panicing and find no rest till they know it is not their family effected by a tragedy.
At the end of this year over 4000 truck drivers will have lost their lives to the industry in the last 20 years. Ten times that are injured, 20 times that suffer Road Trauma, all of them forgotten
This is the side effects of the transport industry and the price truck drivers pay to keep Australia moving.
The Trans-Help Foundation decided to arrange a day to remember our drivers, with a “Truckies National Remembrance Day”. The main event will be held in 2012
"National Truckies Remembrance Day" will be an annual event to ensure they are remembered and respected along with every driver out there still carrying our country.
Ironically, Danny Phillips, an interstate driver came up with a concept of a National Truckies BBQ, to pay tribute to our drivers, with the plan for Oct 2011 - but due to the natural disasters, we have defered it until 2012.
So we have now joined forces to come up with the "Truckies National Remembrance Day BBQ". “This day will remember our lost drivers, our injured drivers, those suffering illness including depression and those out on our roads doing the hard yards to keep our country moving”.
The main National Event will be held in Tarcutta, NSW, the truck stop capital, whilst at the same time hundreds of BBQs will be held around the nation for our Australian Truckies.
The "Truckies National Remembrance Day BBQ" will be held under the auspices of the Trans-Help Foundation, a national registered charity that supports tranpost drivers and their families in crisis.
It is hoped that eventually we can have this day as a public holiday for our industry... join us in ensuring it happens!!!
